Dynamic Domain Name System Short for Dynamic Domain Name System, DNA is a method of keeping a domain name linked to a changing IP address as not all computers use static (fixed) IP addresses. Typically, in a dynamic IP environment, the user's ISP assigns an unused IP address from a pool of IP addresses when the user connects to the Internet, and this address is used only for the duration of that specific connection. This might result in the data getting lost or delivered to the wrong address. NCC’s Dynamic DNS largely overcomes this problem by linking the device address to a name rather than an IP number. The relevant device gets a new IP address every time the client’s ADSL router gets reset. This happens at least twice a day as Telkom resets all ADSL links in 12 hour cycles. Apart from these restarts, ADSL could also be restarted at any time as a result of technical problems. Whenever the ADSL link restarts, NCC`s Dynamic DNS Server is immediately populated with the client’s new IP address. The result being similar to a Static IP address system. |
